GREATER RIDGEWOOD RESTORATION CORPORATION (GRRC) is a non-profit housing consultant set up in 1975 to work for the stabilization and improvement of the neighborhoods of Community Board 5 – Ridgewood, Glendale, Middle Village, and Maspeth. Among our services offered at no charge to all residents of Community Board 5 are:
We help both tenants and landlords fill out forms related to housing and rent control and rent stabilization, and counsels them on eligibility for Section 8, Senior Citizens Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE), and other rent assistance programs.
GRRC counsels owners on payment and loan plans to help them keep properties where the City is selling liens. We survey for and report buildings with illegal uses or dangerous conditions and monitor them for correction of problems.
We help homeowners to apply for Home Improvement (HIP) Loans. This program covers major repairs in owner-occupied one to four family houses at 2-l/2% and 5% interest rates, depending upon family size and income. We also have information on other rehabilitation loan programs. Applications for these loan programs are available at our office, and we will be glad to help you fill them out.
Our crew, supervised by neighborhood crew chiefs and community volunteers, works five days a week from April through November, on properties where the owner has given us written permission. We have removed graffiti at over 6,700 sites since 1992.
GRRC has purchased three City-owned buildings and will rehabilitate them and return them to the tax rolls. (One building will be the new home for the Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps.) We also lobby for funds for street tree planting, for better enforcement of housing codes, historic designation, and other housing-related matters.
